Launch of new service for North East Essex

image
7th October 2019

On the 1st October 2019, Urgent Treatment Centres replaced the Walk-in Centre in Colchester and the Minor Injuries Unit in Clacton, with patients urged to call 111 in the first instance for advice.

Minor injuries will still be dealt with at Harwich.

By calling 111, patients can be assessed over the phone and given advice over where to access treatment. This could be at the Urgent Treatment Centres or Service at their local hospital or the Emergency Department (A&E), pharmacy, or their local GP practice.  Many GPs will be extending their opening hours during evenings and weekends. Specialist staff at the Urgent Treatment Centres will able to treat minor injuries, including broken limbs, strains and sprains, cuts and grazes, bites and stings, scalds and burns, and minor head injuries. Minor urgent illnesses include ear, throat or skin infections, or the exacerbation of long-term problems.

Many people aren’t aware of the different options they have for treatment and these new changes should make it much easier for them to access care in the right way in future.

”The Urgent Treatment Centre at Colchester Hospital will be open all year round 24 hours a day and at Clacton Hospital 8am to 8pm. The Urgent Treatment Service at the Fryatt Hospital in Harwich will be available 9am to 5pm.
