Welcome to Musculoskeletal Service

An evidence-based advice and treatment service for patients with musculoskeletal problems.

Typical problems treated include: 

  • Frozen shoulder/shoulder injuries/shoulder pain
  • Elbow pain, including tennis and golfer's elbow
  • Hand and wrist pains, including trigger finger and De Quervain's tenosynovitis
  • Knee pain/injuries/osteoarthritis
  • Chronic ankle pain following sprain, not improving on RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
  • Ankle sprain, including achilles tendinopathy
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Foot pain, including plantar fasciitis
  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
  • Muscle injuries
  • Sports-type injuries and problems that are not responding to RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
  • Complex sport related pain syndromes.

 

The aim is to maximise independence and to reduce patients’ symptoms and pain.

Treatments may include joint and muscle injections.

A referral to physiotherapy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) and podiatry can be organised when necessary.

How to access the service

Access to the service is by referral from the patient’s own GP to the Community Gateway.
