Company sponsorship supports disability football tournament
It is with thanks to Silverton Aggregates Ltd that at the end of June, a Healthy 4 Life football team was able to go to Ireland for the George Best Community Cup.
Carolyn Rogers (Project Coordinator) accompanied by Jackie Kendle (Project Assistant) took 5 players for a two day competitive disability football tournament in which 72 teams from across the UK and Ireland took part.
Healthy 4 Life came 2nd in their ability group, which was a great result. The trip included a sight-seeing tour of Belfast and its history, plus social engagements in the evenings. Players were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Belfast.
Carolyn said "It was not just about their football ability but also how the tournament and time away increased their confidence and self-esteem.
One player has recently completed his Level 1 in Football Coaching and was able to use these skills with the team. We met teams from last year and it was great to see friendly faces.
The tournament was extremely well organised by the Irish FA."
