Self Care

This clinic is led by general practitioners with a special interest in cardiology (GPwSI). They provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and self-management advice for people referred with the following conditions:

Heart failure
Palpitations
Assessment following 24hr/7 day ECG monitor if required
Atrial Fibrillation that doesn't require cardioversion or ablation
Hypertension – especially younger people (under 40 years) suffering from raised blood pressure and those whose blood pressure is difficult to manage
Stable Angina – where interventional treatments are not planned or are not appropriate (excluding new episodes of chest pain)
Hyperlipidaemias, especially possible family links with high cholesterol
Advice for GP’s on ECG interpretation

Where is the Service provided?

Clinics are available Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) 09:00 – 17:00 from a variety of venues including:

How to access the Service

Referrals are accepted from consultants; GPs; practice nurses and other cardiology clinicians.

Hospital consultants may also triage referrals to the cardiology clinic.

Self-referrals are not accepted.
