Welcome to Lymphoedema

The Lymphoedema Service is predominantly clinic-based and patients referred to the service will be assessed to determine the most appropriate treatment and intervention for their specific needs.

The team will work with the patient and their carer to offer practical support, advice and education to facilitate and support ongoing self-care and self-management as part of an agreed care plan.

There can be two phases in the treatment and management of lymphoedema; an intensive phase and a maintenance phase, which may include the following treatments:

  • Decongestive lymphatic therapy (a combination of MLD & MLLB)
  • Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)
  • Multi-layer lymphoedema bandaging (MLLB)
  • Pneumatic compression
  • Compression garments
  • Medical taping
  • Low-level light therapy (LLLT)
  • Education on self-management technique.
