Welcome to Pain Management

The Pain Management Service is for adults (16+) registered with GPs in north east Essex.

It is based on reviewing the influence that psychological factors and the surrounding social environment have on the support and self-management of pain, with the aim of reducing injections and other medical interventions.

We provide a range of courses to support patients in developing pain management strategies.

We also provide 1 to 1 appointments with our health professionals as needed.

Our team includes a range of health professionals including:

   • Clinical psychologist
   • Consultants in pain management
   • Physiotherapist
   • Occupational therapist
   • Pain nurse specialists
   • Pain psychology support nurse

Once a patient is referred into our service and accepted, they are invited to attend the pain seminar which is an overview of the pain management service and the different self-help strategies we teach.

At the end of the pain seminar, each patient has an opportunity to choose their own next steps within the service.

This might include one of the psychological therapy groups we run, including:

  • Movement and exercise – a five-week course in one of the following: chair-based exercise, gym-based exercise or yoga-based exercise
  • Opioid reduction programme, education and therapy
  • Pacing workshop (five-week course)
  • Relaxation (five-week course)
  • Support groups
  • Understanding pain and medication (one-hour course).
