Welcome to Speech and Language Therapy

The Speech and Language Therapy Service supports people aged 16 and over who have a speech, language, communication, voice and/or swallowing problem. Our aim is to ensure our service users, as well as their family and carers, are able to live and work to their maximum ability.

We provide:

  • Assessment
  • 1:1 and group therapy
  • Practical advice
  • Education and self-management advice for patients, carers and family
  • Communication aids or onward referral  for specialist equipment when clinically required.

 

Conditions we deal with include:

  • Dementia
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Long-term conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis.

 

We also offer a service for dysfluency (stammering) and voice feminization.

We offer clinics at:

Primary Care Centre
Turner Road
Colchester

Monday-Friday 8.00am-4.00pm

We can also arrange home visits for service users who are housebound or for those who it is clinically more appropriate to see at home.

How to access the service

Referral is needed by your GP or a health care or social care professional who is working with you and can explain the issues and provide us with all the relevant information.
